Der er et yndigt land

The He et yndigt country (There is a lovely land ) is the title and the first line of the national anthem of Denmark, one of the two Danish national anthems.

The text was written in 1819 by Adam Oehlenschläger, the corresponding melody comes from Hans Ernst Krøyer by 1835.

In the Kingdom of Denmark, two official national anthems are used: the royal anthem Kong Kristian stod ved Højen mast and the so-called national anthem The He et yndigt country.

Use of the two hymns

  • The royal anthem is played at official events where members of the Danish royal family or the Danish government are present, or where the Head of State of the host country or members of the host government to participate. Even with fleet visits and military sports events, the royal anthem is played.
  • If other civil occasions, such as Sporting events, exchange visits, inter alia, the national anthem is played.

Oehlenschläger Vaterlandslied

The He et yndigt country based on the following poem by Adam Oehlenschläger. It was the first three and over the last stanza of the hymn.

The motto of Horace translation reads: This corner of the world laughs at me more than any other. The original text is written in old Danish spelling.
