Districts of Seychelles

Seychelles is divided into 25 districts, all located in the inner islands. Of these, 22 are primarily or exclusively on the main island of Mahé, two on Praslin, La Digue while with smaller islands and some remote islands ( including Silhouette, North Iceland, Fregate, Bird and Denis Iceland Iceland ) forms another district. The Outer Islands ( Zil Elwannyen Sesel ), which geographically make up with 211.3 km ² 46.4 % of the Seychelles are not associated with any county.

The original 23 districts were created by the Local Government Act 1991 as a local self-government units, with elected chairman ( Chairpersons ) and Councils ( councilors ). At the same time they served as electoral districts. Each constituency appoint a representative to the Parliament (People's Assembly). In addition, the districts make up the spatial reference units of regional statistics. These 23 districts correspond largely to the 23 congressional districts that have already been made ​​for the general election of 1979.
