Doľany, Pezinok District

Doľany ( until 1948 slovak " Ompitál "; German Ottent [h ] al, Hungarian Ottóvölgy - to 1888 Ompitál ) is a municipality in Bratislavskı Region in western Slovakia.

Geography

The place is located in the Danube lowland at the foot of the Little Carpathians, on the road between Modra and Smolenice. The city of Trnava is 18 km to the east and the capital Bratislava is located 36 km to the southwest.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1390 as Ottenthal and belonged to the estate of Castle Red Stone, which lies in the neighboring Častá. The German and old Slovak name is on the Emperor Otto II ( 955-983 ) are in decline. In the 16th and 17th centuries Ottenthal was a market town. In the 17th century a glassworks in the forest above the village was present, since the 18th century, is there a paper factory.

Until 1918 the village belonged to the county Pressburg the Kingdom of Hungary, after which they came to the newly created Czechoslovakia, and now Slovakia. 1945 Ottenthal was destroyed by German Wehrmacht in part. 1948, derived from the German name Ompitál was renamed the more Slavic -sounding Doľany (derived from Slovak dolina = " valley ").

Attractions

  • Roman Catholic. Church of St. Catherine from the 14th century
  • City tower of 1598, situated on a stone bridge over the creek
  • Calvary above the village, with the little church of St. Leonard of 1360, partly in a cave hidden. There, a pilgrimage is held annually on the sixth Sunday after the Easter organized.
