Dominic Kinnear

Dominic Kinnear ( born July 26, 1967 in Glasgow ) is a former American football player and current football coach.

The Scottish-born defender has been training since 2006, the Major League Soccer franchise Houston Dynamo. Before that was active for the San Jose Earthquakes as a trainer and was taken over in its transfer to Houston with.

As a player, he began his career at FC St. Johnstone in Scotland. From 1989 to 2000, he played for various U.S. American and Mexican teams. The former national team played a total of 54 international appearances for the United States.

Playing career

Youth and first experiences in Scotland

Kinnear moved at the age of three years with his family from Scotland to the U.S. to. They settled in Fremont, California, which he referred to today as his hometown. From the age of 5 years Kinnear played football. This he continued in the school team on the John F. Kennedy High School. He then attended the Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where he played for Hartwick Hawks. During his one-year stay at college, he scored four goals.

After one years at college, he moved to Scotland in 1986 to FC St. Johnstone.

Signed in 1989 Kinnear in the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks, who then played in the Western Soccer League. At this time, the team was one of the most successful football teams in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1990 he played with the Blackhawks in the American Professional Soccer League and has won several awards at the end of the season for his playful performance. In January 1996, the Colorado Rapids in the MLS Inaugural Allocations secured the rights to a commitment of Kinnear. Then he moved to the then newly formed Major League Soccer. In the Rapids he could 14 times on the court, but was released at the end of the season, so the franchise could undertake two more football players.

A little later, he moved to Tampa Bay Mutiny, where he remained until his career end in 2000.

National

Overall Kinnear graduated 54 international matches and scored 9 goals for the national team of the United States. Most of them in pre-season games for the World Cup 1994. Ultimately, however, he was not part of the U.S. World Cup squad.

Coaching career

Before the MLS season in 2001 Kinnear was Frank Yallop, former coach of the San Jose Earthquakes, as assistant coach. The two knew each other from their time together at Tampa Bay Mutiny. Together won the MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003.

2004 joined Yallop to the Canadian national soccer team and Kinnear became the new head coach of the team. Former U.S. National player John Doyle took over his position as assistant coach. By winning the MLS Supporters' Shields in the 2005 season Kinnear celebrated his first success as a coach. In the same year he moved with the team from San Jose to Houston, where the team under the name Houston Dynamo continued to play in the MLS. Among his biggest successes include the gains in the MLS Cup in 2006 and 2007.
