Dominic Lash

Dominic Lash ( born January 18, 1980 in Cambridge ) is a British jazz bassist who has been active in the Oxford improvisation scene.

Life and work

Lash, son of the theologian Nicholas Lash initially played guitar, before switching to bass 2001. He studied inter alia on Basstech in London ), 2003, he received his master's degree in composition at the Oxford Brookes University, where he studied among others with Paul Whitty and Ray Lee. In 2010 he received his PhD at Brunel University on metonymy in the work of Derek Bailey, Helmut Lachenmann and JH Prynne. At Oxford he played among others with Tony Conrad, Joe Morris, Evan Parker, Steve Reid, John Butcher / John Russell and Nate Wooley. He is co-founder of the transatlantic Convergence Quartet, with Alexander Hawkins, Taylor Ho Bynum and Harris Eisenstadt; Furthermore, he worked with Alex Ward ( Barkingside, 2008), in Imaginary String Trio with Philipp Wachsmann and Bruno Guastalla, and in the London Improvisers Orchestra and the Oxford Improvisers Orchestra (4 Compositions For Orchestra, 2010). His record debut was in 2006 as head of a brass ensemble with the 7- inch single Tongues of Fire / Smokin ' Jo Crow / Washerwoman 's Brawl. Lash, who also lives in New York temporarily, is currently working with The Set Ensemble, and his Improvsationsprojekt representations and in duo / trio projects with Chris Cundy, Alex Ward, Pat Thomas and Mark Sanders. In 2009, he was with Theo Jörgensmann and Seb Rocheford few concerts in London.

Lash moves stylistically ranging from jazz, free improvisation and contemporary music. He is involved with the ensemble also set of performances of music of the Edition Wandelweiser, including by Manfred Werder, Eva -Maria Houben, Jürg Frey, Michael Pisaro and Radu Malfatti.
