Doug Pinnick

Doug Pinnick ( born September 3, 1950 in Braidwood, Illinois) is an American rock and metal bass player and singer. He became known through his work for King's X, with whom he released 14 albums, but also by four solo albums.

Career

Pinnick was born in Braidwood, but moved to Joliet, when he was 14. He comes from a very musical family. In his youth he was influenced by Motown artists such as Stevie Wonder, Little Richard and Aretha Franklin. But Jimi Hendrix, U2 and Metallica inspired him. As a bassist Chris Squire of Yes he called, Glenn Hughes from Trapeze, Roger Glover of Deep Purple and John Entwistle of The Who as role models as well as James Jamerson, who played for the Motown label.

In 1998, Pinnick outed in an interview with regeneration Quarterly as homosexual. At first encountered this to negative reactions, eg from the Christian side.

In 2014 he went with George Lynch and Ray Luzier as newly formed band KXM on tour and will release an album.

Equipment

Pinnick plays often warm and round sounding, and sometimes a distorted bass sound, which is produced by several Ampeg SVT -4 amplifier. It uses a built Yamaha 12 -string bass, which is a triple -covered four-string.
