Dubňany

Dubňany ( German Dubnian ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers north of Hodonín and belongs to Okres Hodonín.

Geography

Dubňany is on the left side of the river Kyjovka in the Vienna Basin ( Dolnomoravský úval ). To the west lies the Jarohněvický rybnik ( Jaranowitzer pond ) and in the south of Doubrava forest. Along the Kyjovka passes the disused railway line Mutěnice - Kyjov. To the northeast, the hill rises Náklo ( Naklemberg, 265 m ), on the slopes of large-scale viticulture takes place.

Neighboring towns are Svatobořice - Mistřín in the north, and Milotice Vacenovice in the northeast, Ratíškovice in the east, in the southeast Rohatce, Hodonín in the south, Dolni Bojanovice the southwest, Mutěnice in the west and Hovorany and Šardice in the northwest.

History

First written evidence of the parish settlement Jarohněvice come from 1222. Dubňany was first mentioned in documents in 1349, the village sold as Čeněk of Lipa, together with Jarohněvice and Mokronosy to Smil of Letovice. The village is situated between Mokronosy Šardice and Dubňany went out as well Jarohněvice in the second half of the 15th century during the Czech -Hungarian dispute over the Bohemian crown. The corresponding rule for Milotice Dubňany village consisted of 86 houses in 1620 and had 560 inhabitants. After the devastation of the Thirty Years' War Dubňany had only 90 inhabitants living in 14 houses. In the 18th century began in the hills around Dubňany the mining of lignite. 1819 was the road Angersdorf of 323 houses and had 1328 inhabitants.

After the abolition of patrimonial Dubňany formed in 1850 a municipality in the district Hodonín. Economic importance attained the place in the second half of the 19th century by the construction of two glass works by Josef Schreiber & nephews. 1868 was the Upper Hut in Jaronowitz, 1875 followed with the Maxhiitte or lower hut another. Between 1860 and 1870 began with the opening of the mines Jiříkovsko, Antonie, Rudolf, Mary and God Help the intensive mining of lignite to Dubňany. On 2 June 1900, the Brno Local Railway Company took the traffic on the local railway Mutenitz - Gaya.

In 1900 lived in the town of 3060 people, 1921, there were already 4067th 1927, the foundations of the Romanesque church of Jarohněvice were excavated. From 1950 began an expansion of mining operations and by 1960 was on the edge of the village Bergarbeitersiedlung lignite. 1962 reached Dubňany with 7097 inhabitants, the largest population in its history. Since July 1, 1964 Dubňany is a city. From 1980, the closure of the mines began. On the railway line 257 Kyjov Mutěnice 2005, passenger services were set.
