Edelgard Bulmahn

Edelgard Bulmahn ( born March 4, 1951 in Peter Hagen ) is a German politician (SPD). She was 1998-2005 Federal Minister of Education and Research and from 2005 to 2009 chairman of the Committee on Economics and Technology of the German Bundestag. In the 17th electoral term, she was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag. Since October 2013 she is Vice President of the German Bundestag

Life and career

After graduation in 1972 at the high school building Peter Hagen Edelgard Bulmahn first spent a year in the kibbutz " Bror Hail " in Israel. Then she began a teaching degree in political science and English literature in Hanover. In 1978 she was the first and 1980 second state examination for secondary school teaching. Since then, she worked as a school teacher at the Luther School Hannover.

She was deputy chairman of the Friends of Nature in Germany and was a member of the Board of Euro Solar. She was a member of the boards of trustees of the Öko-Institut, the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations " Otto von Guericke", the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the Volkswagen Foundation. She is currently a Senator of the Foundation of Lower Saxony, is among other things the trustees of German Telekom Foundation and the German Institute for Economic Research. Edelgard Bulmahn is married to Joachim Wolschke - Bulmahn.

Party

Since 1969 Edelgard Bulmahn is a member of the Social Democratic Party, from 1993 to 2011 Member of the SPD party executive. Furthermore, it is since 1995 chairman of the Science Forum for Social Democracy. From 1998 to 2003 she was the SPD regional chairman in Lower Saxony. From 2001 to 2011 she was a member of the Board of the SPD.
