Eden District

Eden is a District in the county of Cumbria in England, which is named after the River Eden. Administrative seat is the town of Penrith; Another important place is Appleby-in -Westmorland. Eden, with an area of 2156 km ² the fourth largest county in England and with 24 inhabitants per km ² of the most sparsely populated. A large part of the district is part of the Lake District National Park.

At the foundation of the new county of Cumbria on April 1, 1974, the District of areas of two different counties was assembled. From Cumberland, these were the Penrith Urban District and the Rural Districts with Garrigill Alston and Penrith. From Westmorland Appleby came the Borough, part of the Lakes Urban District and Rural District North Westmorland.
