Edgar Mitchell

Edgar Dean " Ed" Mitchell ( born September 17, 1930 in Hereford, Texas, United States) is a former American astronaut. He was the sixth man to walk on the moon.

1952 Mitchell joined the Carnegie Institute of Technology to study in business management and joined the U.S. Navy. There he was employed as a pilot for reconnaissance flights, was flying officer and took over in 1958 as an officer of the "Air Development Sqadron 5" tasks in the work area for research projects. During his time in the Navy Mitchell became the 1961 Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and in 1964 the title of Doctor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From 1964 to 1965 he was a naval representative of the MOL project.

On April 4, 1966, he was accepted into the astronaut corps, NASA. On 1 October 1972 he resigned from NASA and founded his own company, Edgar Mitchell Corporation in Palm Beach ( Florida). In addition, he founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences, which deals with changes in consciousness, as he watched her on the moon after landing on him. Mitchell is married and has five children.

Apollo

Mitchell was the pilot of the lunar module of Apollo 14, the third successful manned moon landing operation in 1971. Doing so, he pointed out two exits with over nine hours total duration. On the moon, Mitchell conducted experiments on psychic phenomena. The private experiments have not produced useful results.

He was also assigned as a replacement pilot the Lunar Lander from Apollo 10 and Apollo 16.

Edgar Mitchell is one of the first signatories of the call for a Parliamentary Assembly at the United Nations, which will be a first step to a world parliament.

After retiring from NASA Mitchell has strongly addressed esoteric topics and their research. Repeats Mitchell has also expressed to the UFO phenomenon and thereby represent the alien hypothesis. As the source of his knowledge Mitchell does not mention any names, but speaks only of contacts that he had because of his astronaut career in military circles as well as due to its origin from Roswell (see Roswell incident ).

Edgar Mitchell was co-founder of the Association of Space Explorers. 1970 Mitchell was honored by President Richard Nixon with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, one of the two highest civilian awards in the United States.
