Elbow Lake is situated in extensive lakes landscape in the west of Minnesota at 45 ° 59'39 " north latitude and 95 ° 58'36 " west longitude. The city covers 3.50 km ², spread over 4.46 km ² land and 0.96 km ² water surface.
