Ellersleben is a municipality in the district Sömmerda in Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community Buttstädt, which has its headquarters in the city Buttstädt.

Coat of arms
On the crest of Ellersleben you see a green alder on a golden background. A red and white striped strap, which covers the tree is somewhat diagonally to see from the top right to bottom left.
Meaning: The alder is derived for the village Ellersleben and the loop symbolizes a border post. The border post points to the fact that historically the village on the border between Saxony (later Saxe-Weimar ) and the State of Mainz (later Prussia) was located.
Others
During the Second World War, 30 POWs from France, who were housed in the village inn, and about 20 men and women from Poland, Russia and Ukraine had to do forced labor on farms.
