Kannawurf

Kannawurf is a municipality in the district Sömmerda in Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community Kindelbrueck, which has its headquarters in the city Kindelbrueck.

Geography

History

For the first time the same Ministerialengeschlecht of Kannewurf was named 1221 had its headquarters here until 1350.

Originally on the site of the castle was preserved until today a moated castle. With the castle then the gentlemen who protects from Erfurt Weissensee and Sangerhausen to Magdeburg leading road and controlled. In Kindelbrueck the road crossed the Wipper. The 1221 mentioned Albert of Kannawurf could be the builder of the castle.

Built in 1564 George II Vitzthum Eckstedt of the now preserved Renaissance castle Kannawurf. Inscriptions on doors and windows date to the period 1563-1565. Still preserved tower The bell from 1586, it is decorated with the family crest. The north wing housed the reception rooms, including a large hall, the south wing was economic and residential functions reserved, including here was the castle kitchen. Left, Bell Tower, a wooden gallery from the 16th century and imposing cellar round out the ensemble. In a rebuilding phase in the 18th century under the auspices of the family of Bose changes have been made in the room layout and the roofscape. The castle is today still includes a large farmyard, whose generous buildings were built after 1860. In 1914, the Good state domain, the time of the SBZ and DDR it was a state owned asset. The castle garden had to give new stables and farm buildings. The castle fell into disrepair in the 1980s collapsed in the north wing. The final decay appeared to be sealed. After the turn of the early 1990s was the emergency safety device of the collapsed components and roofs from federal and state funds, followed by remedial measures.

During the Second World War, many men and women from Poland and Ukraine had to do forced labor: on the manor and in the state domain.

Culture and sights

Castle Kannawurf

The Renaissance castle was built between 1564 Kannawurf of George II of Vitzthum Eckstadt.

The rescued after 1990, before the expiry located castle since the summer of 2007 in the possession of the Thuringian historic preservation center and the Künstlerhaus Thüringen eV goals of these two clubs are the conservation and cultural use of the castle. Since May 2008 regular cultural events take place again in the restored castle Kannawurf.
