Engelhartstetten is a market town with 1898 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Gaenserndorf in Lower Austria.

Geography

Engelhartstetten lies in the wine district in Lower Austria in the southeast corner of the March field. The municipality is bordered to the east on the March and on the south by the Danube. The area of ​​the municipality covers 65.66 square kilometers. 12.04 percent of the area is forested.

History

In July 1260 the district Groißenbrunn was the scene of the battle of Kressenbrunn.

In the community Engelhartstetten there were several larger settlements of the so-called March Field Croats. In the Kastralgemeinde Loimersdorf still lived until the mid 20th century inhabitants, the Croatian were powerful. Even today, one can find numerous Croatian surname.

Population Development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1807 inhabitants. In 1991, the market town of 1668 inhabitants, 1981 and 1635 in 1971, 1809 inhabitants.

Policy

Mayor of the municipality is Andreas Zabadal, office manager Elisabeth Skocek.

In the market there are a total of 19 council seats after the municipal elections of 14 March 2010, the following distribution of seats: 10 SPÖ, ÖVP - List 7, LBJ 2, no other seats.

Coat of arms

1985 was awarded by decision of the Government of Lower Austria, the current coat of arms: a shield split, front in red three growing from the Schildesfuß golden ears, back in silver two on either side, crenellated red cross beams. As the oldest documented owner of Engelhartstetten is still the root of Arms of the lords of Pranckh, once owner of Schloss Hof, market yard and Niederweiden in the municipal coat of arms.
