Entre Ríos (literally, between the rivers, named after the two rivers Paraná and Uruguay) is a province in northeast Argentina. It lies between the Río Paraná ( border with the provinces of Santa Fe and Buenos Aires ) to the west and southwest, and the Uruguay River ( border with Uruguay) in the east. To the north it borders on the province of Corrientes.

Geography

As part of the territory of the Argentine Mesopotamia, the province is almost completely flat with a few hills of 100 meters. There are two low hills, called Lomadas or Cuchillas: The Cuchilla de Montiel in the west and the Cuchilla Grande in the east. Both are separated by the Rio Gualeguay.

The Entre Ríos province is bounded and crossed by many rivers. In the west and south of the Río Paraná forms the border, east of the Uruguay River and the Río Mocoretá and north of the Río Guayquiraró.

Along the Río Uruguay basin, there are a number of thermal springs, for example, in Federacion, Villa Elisa, Colón.

National Parks

Within the province that borders two national parks have been established: the National Park El Palmar National Park and the Diamante.

Climate

In the province of Entre Ríos prevails in the north before a subtropical climate with no dry season, while in the south is dominated by a temperate Pampa climate. The province is traversed by winds from the Atlantic side. In addition, local winds like the Pampero, the Sudestada and the north wind. The average annual rainfall is 900 millimeters. The average temperature in summer ( November to March) is 20 degrees Celsius. In winter, the temperature is lowered to 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.

Population

Although the Guarani Indians live in Entre Ríos numerous descendants, the province was mainly influenced by European immigrants who established agricultural colonies in the 19th century. Among them were many Volga German, especially around Gualeguaychú and in numerous villages south of the provincial capital Paraná, but also Belgian, for example, in Villaguay.

The population is concentrated along the banks of the rivers Río Paraná and Río Uruguay. On the Paraná River is the provincial capital of Paraná, with 280,000 inhabitants, the largest city in the province, still located in the same bank of the smaller cities Gualeguay, Victoria (on side arms of Paraná ) and La Paz, each with about 25,000 inhabitants. At the Uruguay River, the industrially significant Concordia ( 140,000 inhabitants) and the Carnival and tourism center Gualeguaychú ( 80,000 inhabitants ) and the smaller cities of Concepción del Uruguay is ( 65,000 inhabitants) and Colon (20,000 inhabitants).

Famous Entre Ríos is for the Carnival of Gualeguaychú, which resembles a bit the carnival of Rio de Janeiro.
