Epping (New South Wales)

Epping is a suburb of Sydney, Australia, 18 km north-west of downtown Sydney. He belongs to the Local Government Areas Ryde City, Parramatta and Hornsby Shire and the northern suburbs of Sydney.

History

The aboriginal tribe of Wallumedegal lived in the area between the Lane Cove River and Parramatta River.

1792 Governor Phillip began with the distribution of land to members of the British navy. The area was called on Phillips Field maps of Mars ( Mars is the Roman god of war). It comprised the lands of today's Epping, Ryde and Marsfield.

The train station of Epping was originally called Field of Mars and later Carlingford. The first post office was established in East Carlingford. 1899 named to the suburbs to enable the proposal of the landowner William Midson ( 1849-1924 ) in Epping. Midsons father was born in Epping ( Essex ) in England.

Economy

Epping has a small shopping center near the train station. Other Commercial and Industrial are also in the area.

The Epping RSL club is a popular venue, which attracts many guests, including students from the nearby Macquarie University. In, ' Epping Hotel '' there is also a bar with its own nightclub.

By 2009, some television studios of the radio station's Seven Network were located in Epping.

Traffic

The Epping railway station is on the Northern Line of the CityRail Sydney. The railway line Epping to Chatswood, which is fully in operation since 2009, also starts at Epping Station. In the second stage, this line should be extended until after Parramatta, but this project has been postponed for an indefinite period.

Epping is also well connected to the city bus from Sydney and to the Hillsbus network. The M2 Hills Motorway runs along the north side of Epping to the city center of Sydney. The Epping Road, an important main road runs from the station to the east to the Pacific Highway.

Population

According to the 2011 census, Epping has 20,227 inhabitants, of which 9,883 ( 48.9 %) are male and 10,334 ( 51.1 %) are female. Approx. 49.5 % of residents were born in Australia Eppings. The largest immigrant group is China ( 11.7%), followed by South Korea (6.6%), and Hong Kong ( 6.1%).

Epping is known as an emerging community, which is also reflected in higher land prices compared to their neighboring communities. The proportion of professionals in Epping is almost twice as high as in Sydney.

Well-known residents

Maureen Nyholm (nee Richardson ) - nurse and wife of Sir Ronald Sydney Nyholm from Broken Hill was born here.

Management

Epping is divided into three LGAs: Hornsby Shire, Parramatta City and ( the smallest part ) Ryde City.

In the parliamentary elections for the state of New South Wales Epping creates its own constituency in elections to the Australian Federal Parliament of the suburb is part of the constituency of Bennelong.
