Erik Meijer ( born August 2, 1969 in Meerssen, Limburg) is a former Dutch football player. He was managing director until 2012 Sport at Alemannia Aachen.

Career
Association
Erik Meijer began his career in his hometown at SV Meerssen. At 16 he moved to MVV Maastricht to a year later Fortuna Sittard to join. Professionally he finished teaching a butcher because his father owned a butcher shop. Hence also be up today valid nickname " The Butcher ".
In 1989 he moved to Belgium to Antwerp FC, but returned shortly afterwards returned to the Netherlands, where he played again for Sittard, Maastricht and PSV Eindhoven.
In 1995 he moved to Germany to KFC Uerdingen 05, where he immediately became a regular player, and together with Heiko Laessig in attack Uerdinger. Meijer graduated in his first season in Germany 32 of 34 possible games. Because ten yellow cards during the season he missed it to deny all games. Only Marcus Wedau and Stephan Paßlack reached the same number of inserts. His debut match in the Bundesliga was the Dutchman on 11 August 1995 in a 0-0 draw away match against VfB Stuttgart. On his first goal, the striker had to wait until the 4th Round. In the 3-0 win over Werder Bremen Meijer scored the 1-0 for his team. After the relegation of the 05er was missed, the assailant decided to switch to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. There he had with Paulo Sérgio, Ulf Kirsten and the young Markus Feldhoff great competition. Nevertheless, he came to regular operations and denied a total of 32 games. At the end of the season you missed the first place and was runner-up. In the following year the factory self and others for the season 1998/99 was again second. During this time, Meijer regularly played and played in every season at least 26 games for Leverkusen.
Go to the top of the 1999 /00 he decided to a move to England, for Liverpool. There he stood, however, mostly in the shadow of Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler. In order to give him match practice, Meijer was loaned for the season 2000/ 01 to the Preston North End. Back in December of the same year, the game Hamburger SV secured the services of former Uerdingers, so that he was eligible to play as early as 17 game day, December 17, 2000 compared to FC Bayern Munich and was summoned by Frank Pagelsdorf in the starting lineup. For the next two and a half years he remained at Hamburg, but could not build on the previous Bundesliga times there. His best season there was 2001/2002 when he was able to achieve four goals and had nine assists with best hamburger.
In summer 2003, he joined Alemannia Aachen. Thus at second division was Meijer performers and stem strength. In his first year at the Aachen he led the team with five goals in five games in the final of the DFB Cup. There they defeated Werder Bremen 2:3. Assisted by Cristian Fiél Meijer was in the 90th minute even shorten the defeat but did not turn away. During the first two years at the Tivoli, the attacker missed twice narrowly promotion to the first division. In his last year with the people of Aachen, the 2005/06 season, the resurgence has been achieved in the Bundesliga with 2nd place after 36 years. At his last home game as an active player on May 7, 2006, he took leave together with Wilfried " Willi" Landgraf after three very successful years officially from Aachen management and audience. His final game took place on 8 October 2006 Willi Landgraf held at the Aachen Tivoli. The fathers of Willi Landgraf and Erik Meijer called their sons from the field and thus ended the last game.
National
In 1993, he played once, in a 6-0 against San Marino, in the Dutch national team.
After the active career
In September 2006, Meijer began a job as an assistant coach at Alemannia Aachen. On 22 May 2007 he left this post and told to spend more time with his family and more extensive trips do want to. This he had planned after his retirement as a player, but had not come because of its rapid appointment as assistant coach of Alemannia it. In May 2008 he returned to Alemannia and helped initially in the marketing of the new stadium. In December 2009 he took over in Aachen the newly created post of Managing Director sport he held the end of the 2011/12 season in the third division to the decline of the Alemannia. Currently Erik Meijer works as Sky football expert in the Champions League.
