Eskild Ebbesen

Eskild Ebbesen ( born May 27, 1972 in Silkeborg ) is a Danish rower. The triple Olympic champion and six -time world champion is one of the most successful athletes of his country. He achieved his success almost exclusively in the boot class lightweight coxless four. The team led by him is also referred to as " gold four " ( Guldfireren ).

Biography

1993 won Ebbesen in the Czech Roudnice his first World Championship medal when he finished second to the eighth. He then moved to the newly introduced boat class of the quartet of lightweights, in which the Danes sat right down at the top. After World Championship gold in Indianapolis in 1994 and World Championship silver in Tampere in 1995 followed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, winning the Olympic gold medal the first climax.

In the following years, the gold four of the competition was superior. Ebbesen won three consecutive World Championship gold; 1997 on the Lac d' Aiguebelette (France ), 1998 on the Fühlinger lake at Cologne and in 1999 in St. Catharines ( Canada). In the Summer Olympics 2000, however, the gold four of his favorite role could not meet and took third place. Again there were three medals at World Championships: 2001 silver on the Rotsee in Lucerne, 2002 Gold in Seville and 2003 turn gold in Milan.

During the opening ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics Ebbesen was standard-bearer of the Danish delegation. In Athens, he won his second Olympic gold medal with the gold four.
