Esmoulières

Esmoulières is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Esmoulières situated at an altitude of 580 m above sea level, 5 km east-northeast of Faucogney -et -la -Mer and about 44 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme northeast of the department, on the Plateau des Mille Étangs in the southwestern Vosges, between the valleys of Breuchin and Beuletin.

The area of ​​20.11 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau landscape on the western edge of the Vosges. The main part of the area is occupied by the Plateau des Mille Étangs, which rises slightly towards the north- east. With 674 m is achieved at the level of Le Fléchot the highest elevation of Esmoulières. The plateau is a loose structure of forest, grassland, heathland and bogs. It reaches an average height of 600 m. In hollows are numerous small lakes which are mostly natural origin and during the ice age caused by glacial striation. Some were also dammed and used for fish farming.

In the plateau the valley of Beuletin is sunk about 100 m deep. The steep slopes are mostly forested. They are divided by the Taleinschnitte various short tributaries, including the Ruisseau de la Saulotte and the Ruisseau de la Ferme Vilory ( with the waterfall Cascade du Brigandoux ). The Beuletin ensures the drainage west to Breuchin. Pass the heights partly from sediments that were deposited during the Lias, partly enters the crystalline bedrock evident in geological- tectonic terms. On the heights and in the valleys of the Quaternary deposits found. The entire municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

  • Évouhey (605 m) on the Plateau des Mille Étangs

  • Beulotte -la -Guillaume (423 m) in the valley of Beuletin

Neighboring communities of Esmoulières are La Longine and Corravillers in the north, Beulotte -Saint -Laurent and Servance in the east, Faucogney -et -la -Mer in the south and Amont -et- Effreney in the West.

History

Remains of a Neolithic settlement site indicate a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Esmoulières belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Esmoulières is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs. The municipality does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish Faucogney -et -la -Mer.

Population

With 96 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Esmoulières to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, a continuous decline in population was recorded (1881 888 persons were still counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Esmoulières is still a predominantly by agriculture ( dairy farming and animal husbandry, some farming ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Faucogney -et -la- Mer to Ramon Champ. Another road connection with Amont -et- Effreney.
