Also represented a success offense turned the song " I Knew You Were Waiting ( For Me ) " is a duet with Aretha Franklin which was taken during the recording sessions in 1986, but appeared in the album Aretha.

The bulk of the album was recorded in 1987. Michael used for the recordings a Synclavier 9600, to which it was also his first digital recording. One part was taken up in the PUK studios in Denmark and another part they took in the Sarm West Studios in London. Each song wrote George Michael himself, except for the bonus track Look at Your Hands, which he wrote with David Austin.
