Ferenc Török

Ferenc Török ( born August 3, 1935) is a former Hungarian modern pentathlete who won in 1964 and 1968 Olympic gold medals.

At the World Cup in 1961 Torok moved for the Olympic gold medalist Ferenc Németh to the Hungarian team, the team with András Balczó and Imre Nagy took second place behind the Soviet team. In 1962, the three five fighters again runner-up, Török took third place in the individual standings. 1963 at the World Championships in Magglingen won the individual competition Balczó before Török, together with István Móna, the two also team world champion. In the home of the Hungarian Customs was prohibited goods at Balczó and Móna. The Hungarian Association thereupon blocked both for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964. There, the Hungarian team is now joined with Ferenc Török, the experienced Imre Nagy and Ottó Török, Ottó was Ferenc younger brother. Ferenc Török won gold in the individual competition, Nagy finished seventh and Ottó Török was number 26, so the team just behind the Americans and just ahead of Sweden won the bronze medal, the Soviet team won by a large margin. Ferenc Török 1964 elected Hungarian Sportsman of the Year.

At the World Championships in 1965 in Leipzig and Balczó Móna were there again. In the individual competition Balczó won, Török was third and the team was together with Móna world champion. 1966 in Melbourne, earnings Trök repeated was third, Balczó individual champion, winning all three of the team's World Cup. 1967 won in Jönköping the Hungarian team for the fourth time in a row, in the individual standings Balczó and Török was urged by the young Swede Björn Ferm of the medals. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City drove Balczó, Móna and Török as clear favorites. They won in Mexico City, where Török twelfth time only the third largest Ungar was while as Best Balczó only won silver behind Ferm.

After the 1968 Olympic Games, the two post-doctoral Móna and Török ended their sports career, only Balczó continued his career and then won in 1972 but still single gold.

Ferenc Török was initially Richter in Budapest, later he opened a law office. From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the Free Democrats in parliament.
