Ferrières-le-Lac

Ferrieres -le- Lac is a municipality in the French department of Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ferrieres -le- Lac is located at 805 m, 7 km east-northeast of Maîche and about 28 km south of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the north -east of the vast plateau of Maîche, at the western foot of the height of Belfays.

The area of ​​2.47 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the weakly in relief plateau Maîche, which is on average 800 m. It is mainly composed of meadow and pasture land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To the north of the municipality floor extends to the forest height Sarmin. To the east extends the community area of the wooded ridge of the Bois sous Belfays, on the 910 meters, the highest elevation of Ferrieres -le- Lac is achieved to the dell Sous les Rochers.

Neighboring communities of Ferrieres -le- Lac are Trévillers in the north, Fessevillers in the east, the south and Belfays Damprichard in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Ferrieres belonged to the dominion of Maîche. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Ferrieres was officially renamed in 1923 in Ferrieres -le- Lac.

Attractions

The village church of Ferrieres -le- Lac was built in 1770 in the classical style; Stations of the Cross was renovated in 1995.

Population

With 187 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ferrieres -le- Lac is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 144 people were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Ferrieres -le- Lac was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Damprichard after Fessevillers.
