Fiľakovo

Fiľakovo ( Fileck German, Hungarian Fülek ) is a city in the south of Slovakia, about 15 km southeast of Lučenec shortly before the Hungarian border, about 30 km north of Salgotarjan (Hungary).

The castle was first mentioned in records in 1242, the city itself in 1246 as Filek. Fiľakovo located in a volcanically active formerly part of the North Hungarian Central Mountains. On the basalt stump of an extinct volcano located in the center of the city, the ruins of the castle Fiľakovo. It is the largest castle of the former Hungarian county Nógrád.
