Finistère

The department of Finistère [ finistɛ ː ʀ ] is a French department of order number 29 It is in the northwest of the country in the Brittany region and is the westernmost continental department of France. Due to its location on the tip of the Breton peninsula, it was already in Roman times the name Finis Terrae ( end of the earth ). The Breton name is Penn ar Bed ( [ ˌ pɛnarbe ː t] beginning, tip or head of the world ). The Department is divided into North and South Finistère, Quimper Prefecture seats are in the south and the port city of Brest in the north.

Geography

The Department extends approximately from Morlaix to Brest via Quimperlé. Long sandy beaches in the south, Meander and coves in the north, a rugged rocky coastline with heathland behind the West characterize the coast of Finistere.

Description: The coat of arms is divided into gold and blue. In front, a black inverted to the left lion and behind a jumping silver sheep with golden arms. The main shield has five stoats.
