Finland at the 1924 Winter Olympics
Finland participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix with a delegation of 13 athletes in three sports part. The Finnish NOK had reported 14 athletes to the games, 13 of which participated in competitions. The members of the military patrol do not count as official Olympic participants. Balance: With 11 medals (4 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze ) were the Finns in second place. In the Olympic team was also a German. The Berliner Ludowika Jakobsson, born Eilers, started with her Finnish husband Walter Jakobsson as the defending champion of 1920 in pair skating figure skater and won her second Olympic silver medal. Called The speed skater Clas Thunberg, also affectionately known as " Nurmi of the ice ," alone won 5 medals ( gold over 1,500 m, 5,000 m and in the all around, silver in the 10,000 m and bronze over the 500 m distance ) and was not only ice - king but also the most successful athlete in the Winter Games. Other medal collector of Finnish team were the Speed skaters Julius Skutnabb ( gold in the 10,000 m, silver in the 5,000 m and bronze in the all around ), cross-country skiers Tapani Niku ( bronze in the 18 km cross-country) and the military patrol of Captain Väinö Bremer (silver). Since it was a demonstration event at 30 km military patrol race, the silver medal does not appear in the official medal standings.
