Finnairin Palloilijat Helsinki ( FinnPa ) was a Finnish football club that existed from 1965 to 1998. The first team played six seasons long, from 1993 to 1998, the highest in the Finnish league.

History

The club was founded by employees of the Finnish airline Aero O / Y as Aeron Palloilijat. With the renaming of the airline Finnair in 1969 and the club name changed accordingly.

1992 succeeded the club under coach Reima Kokko promotion to the First Division. FinnPa remained six years in the upper house of the Finnish football and reached third place in 1997 with the best placement. This will FinnPa also qualified for the UEFA Cup in 1998/99, in this competition, the club had to say goodbye but against Hapoel Tel Aviv in the first qualifying round after two 1:3 defeats. In 1998, the Suomen Cup FinnPa succeeded in moving into the semi-finals. Otherwise, the 1998 season was anything but good for FinnPa. In the league, the club finished in last place and had to play in the relegation against TPV Tampere. Both relegation matches ended in a draw (1:1 and 2:2 in Tampere at FinnPa ) and FinnPa rose from only on the away goals rule. This descent should be the end of the association mean: Since Finnair was not willing for a long time the club to continue to support financially was the descent of the appropriate reason to drop the club. Yet in 1998 he was finally dissolved.

The resolution had an impact on the Finnish football history at the turn of the millennium: The businessman from Hjallis Harkimo for FinnPa commissioned Finnair Stadium, which was to be built in 1999, threatened the end. Since it was the "first" club of the city, HJK Helsinki alone is not possible, to take over the costs only partially, bought Hjallis Harkimo 1999 the club PK -35 Helsinki (since 1997 in the First Division ) for a further strong club in to establish Helsinki and changed the name to FC Jokerit, leaning against the standing at the time also owned Harkimos ice hockey club Jokerit. The Finnair Stadium was finally opened in 2000. The FC Jokerit was taken over in 2004 by local rivals HJK Helsinki, the been converted into the club to its second team Klubi -04.
