Fire/Jericho

Fire / Jericho was the fourth single release of the English big beat band The Prodigy. It was published on 7 September 1992.

The single was the addition of " strangely limited edition" because the records were only sold for two weeks to promote the sales of their debut album The Prodigy Experience, which was released a few months later. When the single was released again, but she was still wearing the selfsame subtitles.

Under the direction of Russell Simmons, a video was produced, but which has been rated by the band as too poor and was therefore not published. However, it appeared on a compilation of XL Recordings called The Video Chapter. Due to its rarity, the video with the fans was very popular.

Fire

The contained on The Prodigy Experience "sunrise " version of Fire is different from the single "Edit" through the use of distorted piano sounds, as it is typical for the euphoric breakbeat pieces of the early 90s.

The eponymous sample on Fire ( " I am the god of hellfire !") Comes from the same world hit the British rock singer Arthur Brown ( first released on the album The Crazy World of Arthur Brown 1968). Its use cost the Prodigy label XL Recordings in the first publication 4000 pounds. The high cost of licenses were probably also the reason that this single is not on the compilation Their Law: The Singles 1990-2005 is included.

Another characteristic sample on Fire dates from 1980 published song Hard Times of Pablo Gad ( " When I was youth I used to burn cali weed in a Rizla " - " When I was young, I smoked marijuana in a Rizla ", a well-known cigarette paper brand ). The original is a quiet roots-reggae piece; Liam Howlett is accelerated, but retained the offbeat rhythm, so that the corresponding passage in Fire has a ska - like character.

The reputation of " How ya feeling? With the party! How ya feeling? Are you ready? " in the single version is a live recording of the song African Children of the British reggae band Aswad is removed.

Jericho

The intro of the original version consists of " trombone" sound over a string ostinato and "The horns of Jericho " calls that originate from the same hip- hop album of Hijack (The Badman is Robin ). A sampled from James Brown scream, which is imitated by rising synth glissandos in the following, opened a breakbeat part. Two other samples ( "Feel the bass come down on me" and " Keep on dancing" ) submitted by Jungle Brothers.

The remix of the British Jungle pioneers Genaside II begins with a vocal sample ( "Hey poor! You do not have to be poor any more! ) Located on the track" is Front 242 Welcome to paradise " of EBM band ( from the 1988 album front by front ). the exclamation " And you thought the beat Slowed down, come on! " comes from Public Enemy's Power to the People track on the album Fear Of A Black Planet.
