The DB Rent GmbH is a subsidiary of DB Services GmbH.

Business

The company was founded in 2001. It is part of the business unit DB fleet and has approximately 220 employees (2007). The company is based in Frankfurt am Main. Business purpose of the DB Rent GmbH is to offer tailor-made fleet concepts and mobility modules. Individual mobility and networking strategies of transport systems are essential components of the offer. With the networking of road and rail offered by DB Rent GmbH is rounded.

Flinkster

Flinkster is the car sharing the car. With a market share of 55 %, the company mid- 2012 was the market leader in car-sharing in Germany. 250,000 customers use approximately 3,100 owned vehicles ( including 100 electric vehicles) at 800 stations in Germany (October 2013). In addition, cars can be booked in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria.

Customers who want to use the car sharing have to register before and legitimize a Sales Agent of the web with license and identity card. Then they get a contactless smart card that opens directly the vehicle or a key safe. The car key can be found usually in the glove compartment.

In carsharing test of Stiftung Warentest in September 2012 Flinkster received the overall rating of " good" (2.1 ).

History

First, the offer under the name DB Carsharing was marketed. This DB Rent cooperated with BwFuhrparkService (BW carsharing ), which was also offered to the public, however, a different tariff model for the use of common vehicle pools offered. As of March 2009, the railway first 130 small cars offered in Cologne and Stuttgart as part of a pilot project under the name Flinkster. This offer was, in contrast to previous DB Carsharing, distributed over the whole city at small distances flashy tri-color painted Alfa Romeo MiTo provided. Electric vehicles

To Flinkster fleet also e - Flinkster are called electric cars from Smart, Toyota, Peugeot, Opel and Citroën. Call- a-Bike

Also, the rental bike offer Call-a- Bike is now operated by DB Rent. This phone -based system of bike rental was launched in 2001 in Munich by an eponymous company as a pilot; after the takeover by DB Rent is there and has been expanded in other cities.

The Hamburg Mietradsystem StadtRAD Hamburg is not a separate product from DB Rent: DB Rent was commissioned by the city of Hamburg with the operation, for example, while the pricing was carried through the city.
