Football at the Summer Universiade

Football belongs at the Summer Universiade since the games in 1985 in Kobe, with one exception in 1989, is constantly on the program. Already at the Universiade 1979 in Mexico City, football was a demonstration sport. Participants are football student selection teams, which are like all other participants nominated by their respective national federations of university sports. The tournament is held every two years. In 1993, a tournament in women's football was first held regularly since 2001.
