Fournet-Blancheroche

Fournet -Blanche Roche is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fournet- Roche Blanche is located on 958 m, 10 km south of Maîche and about 7 km north of the town of La Chaux -de-Fonds (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a slightly inclined to the southeast slope on a ridge at the southern edge of the high plateau of Maîche. , High above the valley of the Doubs, near the border to Switzerland

The area of ​​13:08 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the broad ridge which accompany the Doubs Valley on its northern side. With 1031 m the highest peak of Fournet - Roche Blanche is achieved near the Grand Mont. The highs are mainly consisted of meadow and pasture land, but also show some of the larger forest areas. To the north the municipality area extends to the high plateau of Maîche, which is on average 880 m. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Towards the south, the terrain drops steeply to a canyon cut into the Jura plateaus valley of the Doubs. East of Fournet- Roche Blanche, the river forms a large loop. He is here dammed up by the dam of the chorus to a lake. The predominantly forested valley slopes are traversed by various distinctive Kalkfelswänden. In the south and east, the border is always along the Doubs.

Neighboring communities of Fournet -Blanche Roche are Bonnétage in the West, Frambouhans, Les Écorces and Charquemont in the north and the Swiss towns Les Bois in the east and La Chaux -de-Fonds in the south.

History

The villages Fournet and Roche Blanche were pooled after the French Revolution with Charquemont. Since 1874, however, Fournet -Blanche Roche again forms a separate municipality.

Attractions

The village church in Fournet was built in 1720 and enlarged in 1807. From the Belvédère de La Cendrée itself offers a good view of the deeply cut Doubs Valley.

Population

With 348 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Fournet -Blanche Roche is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 669 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Fournet- Roche Blanche was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work or commute across the border to Switzerland.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Maîche via Biaufond to La Chaux -de-Fonds. Further road links exist with Le Russey and Grand'Combe -des- Bois.
