Francesco Romano

Francesco Romano ( born April 25, 1960 in Saviano (NA ), Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer. With the national team of his native country, he participated in the European Football Championship 1988.

Career

In the club

Francesco Romano began his football career away from home in the city of Reggio Emilia. There he played in 1974 for the youth team of AC Reggiana. After three years in the youth of the club, he was appointed at the age of 17 in the first team. The professionals at that time played in Serie C. Romano spent two years on the team and missed it twice the rise in short supply. At the young age of 19, he undertook in 1979 of AC Milan. At last year's champion Romano belonged mostly to the grid and also came in the European Cup of Champions used. There it remained through Milan eliminated in the first round against FC Porto, however, with only one application. In the final table of the Serie A Milan finished at the end of the season in third place. But since Romanos services apparently no longer in line with expectations, he left the club and went to the U.S. Triestina in Serie B. In Triestina he stayed for three years, in which the team ended up getting in the middle field of the table. During the winter break 1986 Naples coach Ottavio Bianchi was on the lookout for a midfielder and therefore committed Romano, who should take over this role. This did Romano with success and had major share in the profits of the double. In the coming years, he remained successful with the SSC Napoli and won in his final year with the team even the UEFA Cup. Then Romano moved to FC Turin in the series as there directly he succeeded in his first season promotion to Serie A, which he had a large share of a total of 31 missions. For the new season in Serie A, Turin undertook many well-known players such as Rafael Martín Vázquez of Real Madrid. Among the signings but two former teammates Romanos were from Napoli ( Raffaele Di Fusco and Luca Fusi ). The newly assembled team to Romano was fifth in Serie A and could even win the Mitropa Cup. Due to the good placement in the table, the club had even qualified for the UEFA Cup, but Romano left the club after the season and moved to the SSC Venice. The club was playing in Serie B and reached Romanos time only the lower places in the table, but did not get off. After two years in Venice Romano returned to his original club, the U.S. Triestina. There he completed a season and was with the team tenth in the series C. However, Romano left the club because it had relegated due to financial problems. His new team was the League rival AC Palazzolo, who was stopped by the relegation Trie Tina's class. In the National Team

Romano first inserts for Italy were in the U -21 national team, for whom he went aground twice and with whom he also took part in the U-21 European Championship in 1982.
