Franz Boll (historian)

Franz Boll ( born October 17, 1805 in Neubrandenburg, † March 20, 1875 ibid; Complete name: Franz Christian Boll ) was an Evangelical- Lutheran theologian, educator and historian.

Life

Franz Boll was the eldest surviving son of the same name Neubrandenburg Pastor Franz Christian Boll (1775-1818) and his wife Friederike, born Brückner ( 1780-1839 ). Boll was 12 years old when his father died unexpectedly and so it fell to the role of head of the family. He attended grammar school Neubrandenburg, then studied from 1824 to 1827 in Halle, Berlin and Rostock Evangelical Theology, completed a probationary period in Leizen and Dambeck 1835 and returned back to Neubrandenburg. Here he became pastor in 1836 Second (responsible for the community of St. John ) and the first teacher at the Neubrandenburg town school, which was still connected at this time the great city school. Since 1839 he worked as Subrektor that school. 1866 elected him his brethren to Praepositus the Neubrandenburg Synod.

Together with his brother Ernst Boll, who lived all his life in his household, Franz Boll committed in 1848 in the Neubrandenburg reform movement. Among his friends was in later years Fritz Reuter, among other things, in De Urgeschicht ' of Mecklenborg put a monument to him.

Franz Boll dealt with the history of Mecklenburg, and in particular the rule of Stargard, which he auswertete more than 200 documents from various archives, but also carried out studies on the churches and saints history. He participated in the archaeological study of Ravensburg, in Ihlenfeld as well as on the islands Bacher Wall and hemp Werder in the Lieps and Fisherman's Island, Tollensee. He practiced intense source collections on the history of the city of Neubrandenburg and the monastery Broda. Around the middle of the century was Boll as d i e capacity for all historical questions of südostmecklenburgischen region. He was a member of the Association of Mecklenburg History and Archaeology, 1872 was one of the founders of Neubrandenburg museum and is considered the spiritual father.

After an extended period of cross- orientation Boll finally found under the influence of resurgent German national feeling after the Franco-German War of 1870 /71 historical themes back and began intensive preparations for a " chronicle the leading city of Neubrandenburg ," at the despite slowing it forces and only partially carried out a recovery in 1867 identified serious case of typhoid worked feverishly. Franz Boll was married since 1841 with the Neubrandenburg merchant's daughter Auguste ( Johanna Wilhelmina) Krull ( 1821-1886 ) and had six children, of whom three daughters Friederike ( 1842-1908 ), Anna ( 1852-1887 ) and Louise ( 1853-1925 ) and a son, Franz Boll (1849-1879), the father survived. From Friederike (gen. peace ) Boll, married. Scheveningen there told of memoirs and now edited, which paint a colorful picture of her parents' house Neubrandenburg.

The majority of the estate of Franz Boll remained in family ownership and is now considered lost. His collection of materials and transcripts, or parts thereof to topics Neubrandenburg town and regional history as well as individual Memorabile are now in the collection of the Regional Museum Neubrandenburg, by both brothers received letters from Fritz Reuter Fritz Reuter Literature Museum in Stavenhagen, sent by both Fritz Reuter letters in the Goethe and Schiller Archive in Weimar.
