Frasne-le-Château

Frasnian -le- Château is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Frasnian -le- Château is located at an altitude of 245 m above sea level, 9 km northeast of Gy and about 27 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in Saônebecken in a depression at the source of Jouanne.

The area of ​​12.50 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The central part of the area occupied by the wide opening of Frasnian, which is on average 250 m. In the hollow springs the Jouanne that drains the area north to the Romaine. In the area of the village is predominant agricultural use. To the northwest, the municipality's area covers with a narrow tip in the only weakly in relief landscape of the Bois de Saint- Gand, which is composed of Tertiary deposits. In the southeast, the terrain gradually rises to the heights flanking the Saônebecken. They consist of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the middle and upper Jurassic period. With 375 m is reached on the ridge of Grachaux the highest elevation of Frasnian -le- Château.

History

Finds of tool ( silex) from prehistoric times suggest a very early settlement of the municipality. In the Middle Ages Frasnian belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. A side branch of the Counts of Burgundy was built in the 11th century, the castle of Frasnian, which became the focus of a rule. Together with the Franche- Comté Frasnian came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2003, Frasnian -le- Château is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy.

Attractions

The most important building of the town is the Frasnian castle, whose current buildings dating from the 16th to 19th centuries. The Church of Frasnian was rebuilt in the 18th century and includes a marble statue of the Madonna from the 17th century. Additional attractions include a stately home dating from the 16th century, the Château Mugnier from the 18th century, various peasant and town houses in the center of the 18th century, and the Lavoir, which was built in 1833 according to plans by Louis Well.

Population

With 293 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Frasnian -le- Château is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased markedly during the 20th century (1891 902 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1990s.

Economy and infrastructure

Frasnian -le- Château was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road D474 which leads from Gray via Gy to Vesoul. Further road links exist with Étrelles, La Montbleuse and Vaux -le- Moncelot.
