Fredrik Sjöström

Fredrik Sjöström ( born May 6, 1983 in Färgelanda ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who for Färjestad BK in the Elitserien playing on the position of the left winger since July 2011.

Career

Sjöström played as a teenager in Sweden for both the junior teams, as well as for the professional team of Västra Frölunda.

After Sjöström had been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2001 in the first round of the eleventh of the Phoenix Coyotes, he played two years in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League for the Calgary Hitmen. At the end of the 2002/03 season he played for the first time in Phoenix ' farm team, the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League. The following year he switched between the AHL and the Phoenix Coyotes, where he arrived on 57 missions in which he reached 13 points scorer.

Unlike many of his compatriots Sjöström did not play in the home, but in the AHL for the Utah Grizzlies during the lockout. From the season 2005/ 06 he was determined to NHL Executive of the Phoenix Coyotes. For the Trade Deadline in March 2008 he was transferred together with David and Josh Gratton LENEVEU to the New York Rangers. In return, Al Montoya and Marcel Hossa changed to Phoenix. In early July 2009, he received as a free agent a contract for two years with the Calgary Flames.

During the 2009/10 season he transferred this in a swap deal, which included a total of seven players to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although Sjöström was used regularly in Toronto, these extended after the season 2010/11, his future is not so, the Swede opted for a return to his homeland and in July 2011 signed a contract with Färjestad BK.
