Fritz Vogelgsang

Fritz Vogelgsang (* March 1, 1930 in Stuttgart, † 22 October, 2009 Chiva de Morella, Spain ) was a German translator, essayist and publisher.

1952 and 1953 he stayed to study at in Spain. From 1964 to 1974 he was literary editor of the Stuttgarter Zeitung. From 1974 to 1980 he worked as a lecturer in the cotta or Klett-Cotta Verlag. From 1980 Vogelgsang worked as a freelance translator and taught himself Catalan. He translated among others literary works of the Nobel laureate Miguel Ángel Asturias, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Pablo Neruda and Octavio Paz More translated into German to him authors Salvador Espriu, Ramon del Valle -Inclan, Rafael Alberti and Joanot Martorell. He gained recognition as editor of the complete works of Antonio Machado. Vogelgsang received numerous awards.

Fritz Vogelgsang last lived in the village of Chiva de Morella, five miles from Morella, and in Markgroningen, in Unterriexingen district.
