Fuans

Fuans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fuans is located at 715 m above sea level, 9 km north of Morteau and about 44 km east-southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village road extends in the Jura, on the southern edge of the basin of Vennes, at the foot of the forest height of the Bois de la Faye.

The area of ​​11:10 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area occupied by the basin of Vennes, which has a width of about 4 km and a length of nearly 10 km away and is on average 770 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. Sunk in the basin is the dry valley of Fuans, the topographical part of the catchment area of ​​the Dessoubre.

To the south, the municipality's area covers over the forest slopes of the Bois de la Faye up on the adjacent, only weakly in relief Jura plateaus of La Faye and Les Cerisiers ( 943 m) showing a loose structure of coniferous forests and grasslands. In the far south is achieved on the hill of Percerot 1023 m the highest peak of Fuans.

History

Since 1998 Fuans is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel. On 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The village church was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style and has a pulpit from the 17th century. Also from the 19th century comes the Chapel of Notre -Dame du Mont Belvédère de la Roche du Prêtre (outside the municipal area ) offers a beautiful view of the valley of the Cirque de Consolation with the karst spring Dessoubre.

Population

With 494 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Fuans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 539 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Fuans until the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, farming ) and forestry embossed village.
