Grandfontaine-sur-Creuse

Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse is located at 699 m above sea level, 7 km west-southwest of Pierre Fontaine- les- Varans and about 33 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the western part of the broad plateaux of Pierre Fontaine, south of the height of the Bois de la Cote.

The area of ​​5.90 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the weakly in relief plateau by Pierre Fontaine, which is on average 700 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows smaller forest areas. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. It has various troughs and crests. The western boundary runs along the forested ridge that separates the plateau from Pierre Fontaine from that of Vercel. History

In the Middle Ages Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse belonged to the rule Passavant, which was owned by the Lords of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998, Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

On 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The Chapel Notre -Dame du Bon Secours was built in the 19th century. In the village are farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté.

Population

With 81 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range between 70 and 115 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, farming ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Vercel - Villedieu -le-Camp to Pierre Fontaine- les- Varans. Further road links exist with Avoudrey and Eysson.
