Avoudrey

Avoudrey is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Avoudrey is located on 710 m above sea level, 7 km east of Valdahon and about 33 km east-southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, in the middle of the basin of Avoudrey, north of Mont Chaumont.

The area of ​​12.86 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the weakly in relief pool of Avoudrey, which has a width of about 4 km and a length of almost 10 km and an average of lies 720 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. Avoudrey itself is located in a dry valley, which belongs to the catchment area of topographically Reverotte (inflow of Dessoubre ). The landscape has various peaks and troughs. To the south, the municipality's area extends into the forest of Les Tremblots ( 772 m). In the northwest the basin from the wooded ridge of the Mont du Goux is limited. Neighboring communities of Avoudrey are Longechaux and Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse in the north, Flangebouche in the east, Longemaison and Passonfontaine in the south and Épenoy and Vercel - Villedieu -le-Camp to the west.

History

In the Middle Ages Avoudrey belonged first to rule Montfaucon, after the reign Cicon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. After the French Revolution, the farms were summarized at the northern foot of Mont Chaumont in the independent community Longemaison. Since 1998 Avoudrey is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

By January 1, 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The three-nave church of Avoudrey village was built in the 16th century ( from the time the choir room and the portal area are preserved) and modified in the 17th respectively 18th century. In the village are farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté.

Population

With 863 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Avoudrey one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. During the first half of the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range 500-640 people. Since the late 1960s, however, population growth was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Further road links exist with Gilley, Passonfontaine and Longechaux. Avoudrey has a station on the railway from Besancon to Le Locle.
