Fallerans

Fallerans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fallerans is located on 622 m above sea level, 5 km south-west of Valdahon and 23 km east-southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The 10.78 km ² large municipality located on the first, slightly in relief of the Jura plateau northeast of the valley system of the Loue, the average lying on 620m high plateau of Valdahon. It is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest and rises to the southeast slightly. Here the highest elevation of Fallerans is achieved with 676 m. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To the south of the municipality floor extends to the edge of the Bois de la Bouhard. In the north, the area extends with a narrow tip on the Plateau du haricot in the hollow of the Combe de Jeuve. This strip of about 2 sq km area is part of the military training area Valdahon, which occupies an area of ​​35 km ² in total.

Neighboring communities of Fallerans are Verrières -du -Gros Bois to the north, and Valdahon Étray in the east, the south and Vernierfontaine Guyans - Durnes and Etalans in the West.

History

Already in 1161 Fallerans is mentioned as a parish in documents. In the Middle Ages was under the area of Fallerans the rule of the Archbishop of Besançon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Fallerans is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

By 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The present church was built in the 18th century. In the village are typical farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 16th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 253 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Fallerans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 318 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Fallerans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N57, which runs from Besancon to Pontarlier. The village is relieved by a local bypass from through traffic. Further road links exist with Valdahon and Vuillafans.
