Nods (Doubs)

Nods is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Nods located at 709 m, 6 km south of Valdahon and about 28 km southeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The former village street lines extending in the Jura, in a depression on the southern edge of the plateau of Valdahon, called the first plateau of the Jura Mountains, on the edge of the first high Jura chains.

The area of ​​11.78 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by only weakly in relief plateau Valdahon, which is an average of 720 meters. It is mainly composed of arable and meadow land. With the exception of a small rivulet in the area of the village of the plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends to the greater area in relief of the first high Jura trains. It ranges over the wooded ridges of the heights of Cicon to the edge of the marsh basin of Seignes. With 955 m is reached on a knoll above the homestead La Séminaire the highest elevation of Nods.

Neighboring communities of Nods are Étray in the north, and Vanclans Passonfontaine in the east, Arc- sous- Cicon and Chasnans in the south and Vernierfontaine in the West.

History

Nods, which lies on the old Roman road from Besancon to Pontarlier was probably inhabited very early. Since the Middle Ages, the village formed a parish ( 1113 above), which was under the ecclesiastical rule of Pontarlier. In 1537 Nods came to rule Cicon. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

On 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier. Nods is the seat of the municipal association Communauté de Communes of the prime minister Sapins.

Attractions

The present church of Saint- Pierre and Saint -Paul 1762 on the site of a previous medieval building rebuilt in 1992 and most recently extensively restored. It has an important organ of 1878. In the village are typical farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 16th to 19th centuries. Only a few traces are visible from a former medieval castle on the ridge Durfort.

Population

With 575 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Nods one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 604 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Nods until well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
