Bremondans

Bremondans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bremondans is located on 540 m above sea level, 14 km south of Baume- les -Dames and about 28 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a wide opening on both sides of the creek Audeux, north of the high plateau of Vercel.

The area of ​​7:22 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern and western part of the area occupied by the basin of Orsans, which is partly covered by arable and meadow land, partly by forest. It is drained by the Audeux northwest to Sesserant and Cusancin. In the east and south passes over a 80 to 100 m high ground level to the high plateau of Vercel. With 664 m is achieved at the height east of the village is the highest elevation of Bremondans. The municipal area also extends into the valley of the Creuse ( upper reaches of the Audeux ).

History

In the Middle Ages it was the seat of a Bremondans own rule. Leugney formed the center of a large parish. Together with the Franche -Comté Bremondans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Bremondans is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

By January 1, 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The single-nave Romanesque church of Leugney was built in the 12th century. The choir dates from the 16th century. The church has a rich interior, including Gothic sculptures, a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary from the 15th century and a bronze baptismal font from the 15th century. Remains of the manor house of Leugney and the castle of the family of Bremondans are obtained. In the village there are several old farmhouses dating from the 16th to the 18th century in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté.

Population

With 81 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Bremondans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 175 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Bremondans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Baume- les -Dames by Vercel - Villedieu -le-Camp. Further road links exist with Pierre Fontaine- les- Varans and Courtetain -et- Salans.
