Longechaux

Longechaux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Longechaux is located at 725 m above sea level, 7 km east of Valdahon and about 32 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village street lines extending in the Jura, in the northern part of the basin of Avoudrey, at the eastern foot of Mont de Goux.

The 5.13 km ² large municipality located in the French Jura. The main part of the municipality is occupied by the weakly in relief pool of Avoudrey, which is an average of 720 meters. It is mainly consisted of arable and grassland. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The landscape has various peaks and troughs. In the West, the municipal boundary runs along the wooded ridge of the Mont du Goux, which separates the basin of Avoudrey from the plateau of Valdahon. With 820 m find the highest mountains of Longechaux is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Longechaux are Grand Fontaine- sur -Creuse in the north, east and south, and Avoudrey Vercel - Villedieu -le-Camp to the west.

History

In the Middle Ages Longechaux belonged to the rule Vercel. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Longechaux is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

By 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The village church of Longechaux originally dates from the 17th century, but was enlarged in 1789; the bell tower was completed in 1772. In-room amenities include a massive baptismal font, a cross of 1632 and a relief of Christ of 1629th

Population

With 64 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Longechaux is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. During the first half of the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range between 100 and 111 people. Since the 1950s, however, a significant decline in population was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Longechaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, farming ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Avoudrey on the main road D461 (Besançon - Morteau ). Further road links exist with Vercel - Villedieu -le-Camp and Grand Fontaine- sur- Creuse.
