Athose

Athose is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Athose is located on 648 m, 9 km south-southwest of Valdahon and about 28 km southeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the northern slope of the valley of the village of Bach's Athose, between the high plateau of Valdahon in the north and the first higher Jura ranges in the south.

The area of ​​7.63 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley of Athose, which is drained by the village stream to the southwest of Loue. To the west of the municipality of soil ranges on the average 700 m high plateau of Valdahon, which is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. With a narrow strip, the municipality's area extends to the southeast into the territory of the first high Jura trains that run from the Roche de Haute Pierre to the northeast. It extends over the height of Le Sapey ( 882 m the highest elevation of Athose ) and the trough of Les Prés -de- Vaire up to the heights of Cicon.

To Athose include the hamlet of Les Fermes - d'Athose ( 825 m ) north of the height of Le Sapey and various individual courtyards. Neighboring communities of Athose are Chasnans the north and east, Aubonne, Haute Pierre -le- Châtelet and Mouthier -Haute -Pierre in the South and Lods and Lavans- Vuillafans in the West.

History

Ecclesiastical was under Athose in the Middle Ages the rule Pontarlier. In 1537 the village came into the possession of the reign Châteauneuf ( at Vuillafans ) and 1627 under the rule Cicon. Together with the Franche -Comté Athose came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

On 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The church of Notre - Dame d' Athose houses an important wooden statue of the Virgin Mary from the 16th century, and therefore, forms a pilgrimage. In the village are typical farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 16th to 18th centuries.

Population

With 173 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Athose is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 257 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Athose was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
