Gaitana (singer)

Gaitana ( ukr: Гайтана transcribed Hajtana, actually Hajta - Lurdes Essami, ukr: Гайта - Лурдес Ессамі; born September 29, 1979 in Kiev, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic) is a Ukrainian pop singer. Her father is Congolese.

With five years Gaitana moved with her parents in the Congo, the age of ten, she returned to Kiev with her mother.

As a child she played competitively table tennis before she turned back as youngsters a sporting career behind the music. She tried in different genres of music and was a singer for various bands before they were successful with their own mix of styles. Under an agreement with the Ukrainian record label Lavinia took her first, 2003, released album -wide popularity. Their predominantly Ukrainian-speaking songs they composed themselves

In the Ukrainian preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest 2012, she beat out 21 competitors. With the pop song Be My Guest it survived the semi-finals on May 24 in Baku and reached for her native country in two days later held ESC finals in 15th place
