Greenjolly

Jolly Green (Ukrainian: Ґринджоли transcribed Gryndscholy, also Gryndzholy ) is a Ukrainian musical duo from Ivano- Frankivsk. With its rap or hip-hop- like piece Rasom nas bahato ( "Together we are many " ), they created late 2004, the " anthem of the Orange Revolution ." The song was sung during the protests against election fraud by the masses. The duo also won the Ukrainian preliminaries for the Euro Vision Song Contest, which took place in Kiev in May 2005.

Career

Jolly Green consists of Roman and Roman Kalyn Kostjuk who had already played in the 1997 resolution reggae band Nema Marli together. They chose one of the last pieces of the old band " Gryndscholy " as a band name for their new lineup. The word is from the Hutsul dialect and means something like " small wooden sleigh ". But from the start, they also considered the English spelling Jolly Green.

Was the precursor band still influenced by classic reggae, so experimented Jolly Green from the beginning with a very cheerful, danceable version. Thematically, they circled around winter themes of her home: snow, mountains, sledding - so her style was called the " Winter Reggae".

1998/1999 took the duo to three festivals and competitions: the future of Ukraine ( Майбутнє України, 1998), Melodiya ( Мелодія in Lviv 1998) and Pearl of the season ( Перлини сезону, 1999), where they played their first three pieces. However, as each runner-up the prices and decided you won participate in any further events of this kind. In the following years they experimented with different styles, including more lyrical rock ballad, then they had an acoustic phase in which they re-arranged their old songs, which they used acoustic guitars, viols and tambourines. With this program, they toured a few months by the West Ukrainian clubs.

In the years 2003/2004 the project of two musicians rested - they arranged for other artists in his own studio Roma Record ( Рома Рекорд ) and produced no new own pieces. Roman worked as a sound director Kostjuk on radio station Sachidnyj Polyus ( North pole); Roman Kalyn initiated two projects in which local television Tretya Studija (Studio 3).

As the end of 2004, after the electoral fraud during the presidential elections in the whole Ukraine were held protests, tens of thousands of people were in the western Ukraine and in Green Jolly's home city of Ivano -Frankivsk in the street, as well as the two previously in his own words rather apolitical musicians. They played on one of the events in the first week of protests at first their old songs and wrote afterwards within a few hours the hip hop song like Rasom nas bahato ( нас Разом багато, Together we are many ) on the quotations of Viktor Yushchenko and political slogans sat and textual allusions to the Chilean revolutionary song El pueblo unido jamás será vencido from the 60s has. In February 2005, Green Jolly received in gratitude for his active participation in the Orange Revolution, a commemorative medal of the new president, Viktor Yushchenko, is stamped on the round a cut orange of the title of her song.

On 27 February 2005 Jolly Green won the title the Ukrainian Trials for the Euro Vision Song Contest, to be held in Kiev in May 2005.
