Gandria

Gandria is a district of Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Until the incorporation into the city of Lugano in 2004 it formed an independent political community. The place has only about 200 residents, but nine restaurants, tiny alleyways, stairways and old buildings.

Geography

The earlier coined by fishermen and border guards village is built on the steep slopes of Monte Bre and for over a hundred years hardly changed.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of San Vigilio.
  • Oratory of San Rocco.
  • In Cantine di Gandria on the south bank of the Ceresio the Swiss Customs Museum is home, which belongs to the Swiss National Museum.
  • In a forest clearing high above Lake Lugano are the Sasso della Predescia and Sasso di Gandrigna, two prehistoric shell stones.

Others

There is also a march for brass band, composed by Gian Battista Mantegazzi, dedicated to the village Gandria and that's the name.
