Genestrerio

Genestrerio

Genestrerio was until April 4, 2009, a municipality in the district of Mendrisio, in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The village is ten kilometers away from Chiasso, on the Italian border.

On 25 November 2007, the merger of the municipalities Arzo, Capolago, Genestrerio, Mendrisio, Rancate and Tremona was approved by the voters. They have joined together by April 5, 2009 the new church Mendrisio.

History

Genestrerio was already inhabited before the first millennium. Documented evidence of the village is the first time around 1300. Since the beginning of the 16th century, many inhabitants of the village found as a mason in Italy their income. In the 18th and 19th century, the Boffi family and a representative of Coldirari as plasterers were known.
