Ghanaian general election, 2000
The presidential elections in Ghana in 2000 were held in Ghana, West Africa on 7 December, the same time as the parliamentary elections. On December 28 there was a runoff. Seven candidates stood in the first round of the election. Since no candidate received the required minimum of 50 % of the votes, it came three weeks later for the runoff between the top two.
These elections were the first in the Ghanaian history that led to a change of government through the ballot box.
