Giovanni Ferrari

Giovanni Ferrari ( born December 6, 1907 in Alessandria, † December 2, 1982 in Milan ) was an Italian football player and coach.

Career

As a player

As a midfielder Giovanni Ferrari was one of the most successful football players of Italy.

He first played in the early 1920s to 1930, with his hometown club U.S. Alessandria and then moved to Juventus, where he was until 1935 under contract. At Juve he belonged to the legendary team of Quinquennio d' Oro and won 1931-1935 five Italian championships.

As a Juve player, he won the Italian national football team, the football World Cup in 1934 and was able to repeat this success in the football World Cup in 1938 was even, this time as a player of Inter Milan.

After a season at FC Bologna in 1940, he ended his active career in 1942 again with Juventus. In his long career he was eight times Italian Champion (5x with Juve, Inter and 2x with 1x with Bologna). Total of which in 316 Serie A games, he scored 427 league games 171 goals, 112 goals. In the National Team of Italy, he was active in 44 games, scoring 14 goals.

As a coach

After his playing career, he trained first in the season 1941/42, Juventus. After the war he began to break in 1945 at Brescia Calcio. From 1948 to 1950 he was football coach at AC Prato, in 1951 Calcio Padova.

Of 13 December 1958 to 29 November 1959 he was in charge of the Italian national football team, then took over its predecessor Giuseppe Viani the team for three games. From December 10 1960 to November 4, 1961, he alone was responsible for the fate of the Azzurri again, then together with Paolo Mazza. In time with Mazza the FIFA World Cup 1962 falls in Chile, which culminated with the Battle of Santiago. After the World Cup he and Mazza were replaced by Edmondo Fabbri.
