Gothelo I, Duke of Lorraine

Gotzelo (also Gozelo ) of Upper Lorraine and Lower Lorraine (* 970, † April 19, 1044 ) was the son of Count Godfrey of Verdun and Matilda of Saxony.

In 1023 he succeeded his brother Godfrey II Duke of Lower Lorraine. For German King Henry II, he always had good relations. His successor, Conrad II, he refused at first the recognition and joined a lotharingischen noble opposition to.

In neighboring Upper Lorraine died in the year 1033, the local Duke Friedrich III ..
